Our Music

Each song tells a piece of our story. From the deeply personal “Developmental Services Ain’t So Grand Anymore,” which sheds light on struggles with systemic challenges, to the touching tribute “Father and Son,” our music is a living chronicle of our journey.

We believe in embracing imperfections, recognizing the humanity in all of us, and using music to connect with people on a soul-deep level. Our journey may have had its ups and downs, but every note we play is a testament to our belief that through music, we can inspire change, understanding, and hope.

A Legacy Forged in Love and Music

We are The Rebel and Their Sidekicks, a band that carries the weight of history, the power of storytelling, and the soul of music through every song we write. Our journey began with our parents, two individuals whose paths crossed in Timmins, Ontario, and whose love for music and each other became the cornerstone of everything we do.

The Love Story of Tommy Messer and Dorothy McIntyre

Our dad, Tommy Messer (known by some as Chadwick SR, and inspired by legends like Stompin’ Tom Connors), was a miner by trade and a musician at heart. His love for our mom, Dorothy Tammy Anne McIntyre (affectionately compared to the legendary Reba McEntire), inspired timeless songs like “Bus Tour to Nashville” and “Songwriter’s Wife.”

A Timeless Legacy

Though their love story lasted just 18 months, it left behind a legacy of music, memories, and a deep connection to storytelling. As dad sang about life, love, and the struggles of being true to oneself, he left behind clues in his songs that continue to inspire us today.

Overcoming Struggles Through the Power of Music

We’ve faced our share of challenges—battles with identity, the weight of misunderstood truths, and the fight to honor our family’s legacy in a world that often refuses to listen. But through it all, music has been our voice, our therapy, and our connection to the ones we love.

Karson the Rebel

A voice of resilience, carrying forward the music and spirit of his father.

My dad, Tommy Messer (Chadwick SR, by famous standards, Stompin Tom Connors), met my mom Dorthy Tammy Anne McIntyre (by famous standards, Reba McEntire),they met in Timmons , Ontario. while dad was working at the Holinger Mines and mom was hanging around the McIntyre Mines, which belongs to our family. It was my dad who took my mom to the Country Music Hall of Fame, as he talks about in his song “Bus Tour to Nashville”, and he loved her for her red hair and her songwriting talent (as dad mentioned in his song , “Songwriter’s Wife.”)

The Sidekicks

A supporting cast of family, friends, and collaborators who help bring our music to life.

Every great story has its unsung heroes, and for us, it's the remarkable group we affectionately call "The Sidekicks." They’re more than just a supporting cast—they’re an essential part of our journey, breathing life into our music and amplifying its reach. Our Sidekicks include family members who offer steadfast encouragement, friends who lend their honest feedback and inspiration, and collaborators whose talent and dedication turn melodies into masterpieces. Whether it's a sibling strumming along on the guitar, a friend penning heartfelt lyrics, or a producer meticulously crafting the soundscape, each contribution is a vital thread in the fabric of our musical journey.

What We Stand For:

Truth

Every lyric we write comes from a place of honesty, pulling from our personal stories and struggles.

Resilience

Life hasn’t been easy, but we’ve used our challenges to fuel our creativity and inspire others.

Legacy

Our music honors those who came before us while paving the way for new stories to be told.
